I haven't posted anything for a while, so it's time to get back in the saddle.
The City has been humming along quite well lately. The snow is gone and the leaves have come out. Looking forward to putting up my new flag this weekend. Been raining for the past few days, but that's OK, we needed it. I was talking with the good folks at City Hall the other day concerning the Stormwater Utility. Isn't it ironic that the people who told us to remove the storm drains from the sewer systems back in the 80's (aka EPA), are now leading the charge on stormwater "pollution". If the storm drains had been left alone, and the treatment plants sized properly, we wouldn't really have any problems, right? So we follow the rules, only to have that used against us later on. Really? Isn't that after-the-fact (ex post facto) regulation? Well not so fast. Stop making sense. My case in point....A local businessman buys a piece of land in the 80's. He develops the property based on the City Ordinance of the day. Now in 2013, a new rule-ordinance-utility is created that penalizes (taxes) the developer, based on his approved 80's plan. I'm no lawyer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express a few weeks back. I smell a lawsuit. I would think Ed Bearor is at the Sea Dog looking for clients as I type this.
The 2013 Waterfront Concert Series kicked off last week and I didn't hear a thing. Nope, not a note could be heard at my place. I even thought the show was on Saturday it was so quiet that night. Sounds like moving the stage helped the folks on the West side. Not so much for those in North Brewer or near EMMC. Plenty of complaints from those areas. I'm a little pissed that I CANT hear anything. I liked the occasional music floating thru my window. I'm not in the direct path, so I cant relate to those people who say they are blown away by the noise. I do however, feel for them. One man's pleasure is another man's pain.
I've notice quite a few sofa's on the side of the road lately. Do people actually think that the trash collecting crew will take a sofa? Are you kidding me? Even the scrappers don't want your sofa. Actually, after two weeks out in the rain, nobody wants your crap. Don't we have an Ordinance for that? Where's a cop when you need one!!
I did my annual walk up the standpipe yesterday. Always a treat to climb to the top of Bangor. It was a little overcast, which kills the view, but pretty cool anyway. I love the fog as it takes me back to younger days on the Bay of Fundy. If you haven't done a standpipe trip, you should, it's worth it. They have one during each season. I'll be back in the Fall. Thanks BWD!
