Here We Go

The new Cross Insurance Center is poised to open in a few weeks. Here we go Bangor. Will this be the spark that set this City on fire? Only time will tell. When it was announced that Mike Dyer would be the GM, this looked like a house of cards to me. Then the big announcement, HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS!!!! Big F’n deal, Mike going to his wheel-house right off the bat. Then Jeff Dunham, stupid puppet guy was announced, another wooopeee moment. Then I read online (not anywhere local mind you) that another Mike softball, Sesame Street Live was coming, WOOOOOOOOOO!!! I was totally psyched! NOT.  Then finally Global Spectrum kicked this up a notch with the Broadway Series. Good stuff here, real good. If you have not seen BMG, do yourself a favor. Fun for the whole family. This is quality shit right here in Bangor. I wont be going to any of those events, I’ve seen them before. But they will be packed I’m sure. Now comes the announcement that local sports teams will be using the Center, UMO and a few High Schools. That maybe what this place needs to keep it hopping every night. I’ve raved about the numbers being used for the Center for quite awhile. How something needs to be going down 5 nights a week just to keep the lights on. This just might be the ticket in the short term. I don’t see Chicago putting us over the top.

Noise at the waterfront is always a hot topic. So glad we moved the stage to lower the volumes for the neighbors. I have to say it’s been pretty quiet at my house. Kenny C was the loudest by far. I did actually close my windows. I cant imagine living on Patten or Walter St. during a concert. That must really suck. Of course, most folks say STFU, it’s huge money for the City. Once again, the little guy is being shouted out by the majority. Doesn’t make it right. The only thing I know for sure, there isn’t a solution to the noise. They can put a roof over the whole park and it wont make a damn bit of difference. They can build sound walls, wont help. Why? Because people will bitch. That’s what humans do. We like to complain. Oh, not everyone mind you, but there’s a few that have no life. The only answer would be to build another venue outside of town. But that’s not City property………and what about the stink? Nobody noticed the smell until after Phish played down there. Dirty Hippies!

City Council seats are up for grabs again, it’s that time of year. I’m curious as how Charlie Longo will fare this time around. Kid’s been a lightning rod for all things stupid. Sorry Charlie, me thinks your out. I’ll have to give the nod to Nelson Durgin. Outstanding civic leader in my book. So who will the newcomers be? Still pretty early to be thinking about November.

The SLWS is going strong this week. Good stuff for Bangor. Good stuff indeed. The kids from Bangor beat up on the Canadians in the opening round. But don’t worry, they have free government sponsored healthcare to heal the wounds.

The big brew ha concerning SNAP and EBT cards is a tough one. In the City, they can set up safe guards against abuse. Much tougher in the more prominent rural areas of the State. The small mom n pop store out in West Boonietown needs the business. Half the Town is using the EBT card. He'd go out of business if he didnt let things go, a few smokes or beers at a time. He'll be turning the blind eye for sure, who could blame him. Survival people.

The American Folk Festival is next weekend on the waterfront. Never been disappointed with the AFF. Looking forward to this year as well. A bloomin onion is in my future. I don’t care how long that line is dammit.
